09-13-09....For the second Saturday in a row, neighborhood residents pulled weeds, dug up grass, and generally beautified the traffic islands at Nolensville Road and Thompson Lane, Nashville TN. Pictures are below of the intrepid crew: Sherry McCall, Judy Beard, Irene Kelley, James Cole (Pastor of Woodbine United Methodist Church), Mike Hodge (not in picture, but behind camera). The slightly soggy dirt made pulling weeds easier -- but more...... filthy! Special thanks to: --James Cole, as he has been out there BOTH Saturday mornings. --Rick Harris and Walker Lumber, for trash bags, gloves, and caps. --Judy Beard, who also serves on the Metro Beautification Commission for our district. |

| Ride for Reading donates 10,000 books | When a child in his class had no books at home to read, Mathew Portell, a teacher, his bike-riding friends and others got involved.
Matthew established a nonprofit, Ride For Reading, which accepts donated books on all topic and distributes them to schools and to students who often are in low-income families. |
